Hairband Ampersand

Well I was going to post an excerpt, but Tom seemed to really enjoy writing this so I will post his entire email.

Hi,

As a follower of The Ampersand blog, very much acquiescing with the justified praise and appreciation this beloved character is now receiving, I was most astonished when I was presented with a ‘natural’ occurrence of the aforementioned glyph on my way to work one chilly Winter’s morn — please see picture attached.

An unassuming passerby must have discarded the pictured hairband, undoubtedly unable to turn back and retrieve the item amongst the hustle and bustle of an Old Street rush hour, unaware that its fall created a new purpose and invested new meaning upon this doomed piece of apparel — that of the (albeit reversed) hairband ampersand.

I must state that in no way have I created, manipulated or doctored this image, it is presented as was snapped on my cameraphone that fateful day in Shoreditch.

I hope that you find it of interest enough to share with other ampersand-lovers. I know that it truly was a defining moment in my typographical life.

Kind regards,

Tom Browning
