About the &
I’m a graphic designer living in San Francisco and working in the east bay. I started this blog on a whim and now it has sort of taken off. I got inspired to start the site when I moved from the desolate Sunset district to downtown. There is such a beautiful variety of signage I decided to do what I could to document it. There are already a number of blogs and flickr galleries dedicated to found type and signage, so thought I would be a bit more specific.
What about the ampersand? First of all, it’s beautiful. It comes in more interesting varieties than any other typographic character so why not? A quick google search confirmed this idea was original, so it became my duty to make it happen.
I approach this project as more of a curator or a moderator for discussion than a true expert on the subject of the ampersand.
