I’m really not sure why this is backwards. Maybe Ace Kieffer knows?
I have mentioned The Journal of Urban Typography before. I browsed around the archives over there and found a few good ampersands. The one on the bottom right was actually one of mine that made it’s way over there. It’s all coming full circle. Also this.

A reader named Andrew found this odd one in a community college library. On a somewhat related note, I found this collection of (non-Victiorian) woodtype on Grain Edit. There are some pretty interesting ampersands in there if you poke around.
Add yeast and salt and you could have bread. Maybe this is a graffiti artist joke about wheat paste? Anyhow, this guys is facing the wrong way. That’s a three with a line (almost) running through it.

UPDATE:
I just learned the real story behind this from Bilil who writes:
Hey There,
Really like the blog. Anyway, this is near my house. I actually also thought it was a sly wheatpasting joke. However, the plywood has come down and unfortunately (unless you’re into fancy pizza places) this is just the name of the restaurant that’s being built there.
Anyway: Relevant eater article and under construction website.
For those who don’t know the ß is called and Eszett.
