A fine specimen. Close-up. This weekend I took a little trip to the pet cemetery in the Presidio. There were plenty of ampersands along with other fine examples of home-grown typography. You can find more info here or you can just view my gallery here.
I have mentioned The Journal of Urban Typography before. I browsed around the archives over there and found a few good ampersands. The one on the bottom right was actually one of mine that made it’s way over there. It’s all coming full circle. Also this.
A reader named Andrew found this odd one in a community college library. On a somewhat related note, I found this collection of (non-Victiorian) woodtype on Grain Edit. There are some pretty interesting ampersands in there if you poke around.
I have always wanted a Gocco machine. I do love obsolete, analog technology. The problem is they are kind of expensive. Anyways, I like the ampersand here. It’s a pretty strange shape and I don’t think I have ever seen one like it.
Chinatown, San Francisco, Calif The last three posts were all from Frank Synopsis. He has a bunch of other ampersands in his photostream.

All of the antique ampersands you would ever want can be purchased for only $50,000. Maybe a little steep for me. Some really nice stuff in this collection.
