This is kind of an overgrown monster of an ampersand. It is kind of beautiful and ugly and interesting in the way a kudzu-choked tree is. This unusual looking ampersand comes from a shoe & bag repair shop near the Stockton tunnel in San Francisco. Note the bottle of Jack Daniels wedged into that pipe.
Nick Sherman sent me this poster he designed for myfonts.com. Pretty cool stuff. He also sent in this really enormous wood type ampersand from the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum. I mean just look at that beast.
