I have been busy with a few other random projects like drawing every single United States Senator, working on a cookbook, starting a small-batch gigposterish collaboration, and working. Blame Attention Deficit Disorder.

A word about submitting content

I love receiving emails for suggestions for content on this site. I try to post as much cool stuff as possible from the stuff that you guys send in. Most of it is really great, but I admit I let the mailbox fill up for months without checking it because, like everyone else, I get busy. Also I get tons of spam. So much spam.

I want to keep this site going, and after some feedback, I realized that registration was trickier than I realized. I made some tweaks, and hopefully now it is easier for you guys to register and contribute etc.

The “register” link is now on the contact page and on every article page.

New Portfolio Site

This post is not about ampersands.
It is about me.

Last month, I was laid off due to the lousy economy. I spent the last few weeks redesigning, reworking, and rebuilding my portfolio site from the ground up. I flipped the switch on the new site this morning, and now my job hunt officially begins.

If you don’t know already from here, I am a Graphic Designer living in San Francisco. I work on all kinds of stuff: print, web, branding, logos, banners, TV, etc. Since moving to San Francisco I have worked here and more recently, here.

So I post this here on The Ampersand just in case there is someone out there who wants to hire a fellow ampersandophile.

Many people ask me what typeface I used for the image on the upper left over there.

It’s Caslon 540 Italic.

From Wikipedia:

Caslon 540 was designed by the staff of American Type Founders and released in 1902. The typeface was originally intended for use in advertising and is based on Caslon 471 with shortened descenders. It does not include a bold weight.

Yes, I know it’s been a while, but I have been busy trying to balance work, life and a few other projects. People have been sending me lots of ampersands, and I have been collecting some of my own as well, so there will be lots more cool ampersands trickling in soon.

Throughout the course of this blog I left the about section more or less blank. I put placeholder Lorem Ipsum text up there and forgot about it. Thanks to Stefán Kjartansson for letting me know, and thanks for linking to my blog on You Work For Them.

Oh, and here is a cool neon ampersand. I think it was from a massage parlor.
